Fund Raising News
The purpose of our Annual Appeal is to enhance the Library District’s ability to offer additional programs and services that are not covered by the annual budget. Also, the District is required to raise funds outside the tax levy in order to support its operations. Your contribution will make a real difference in the quality and the quantity of programs and services that our libraries can offer. The Annual appeal in 2005 raised $24,000.00. We hope to raise much more during the 2006 - 2007 Annual Appeal.
Please send your gift of $20, $100 or even $1,000 today and play a part in creating a brighter future for the next generation of Poughkeepsie’s citizens .Send your gift today to the Annual Appeal.
On October 30, 2006, the Friends announced a pledge of $250,000.00 to be fulfilled over a five-year period in support of the expansion of the Library’s District’s programs, services, and capitol improvements. “Through the years, the Friends have made a huge contribution to our ability to offer a wide variety of programs and services,” said Tom Lawrence, Executive Director of the Library District, “and this latest pledge ensures that we will continue to expand and improve the ways in which we serve the community.” The $250,000.00 includes a pledge of $50,000.00 from the George Strba Trust, a trust administered by Friends Board member David Ferenz, in support of expansion of the Children’s Room in the renovations at Adriance Memorial Library, and in support of the children’s programming in the Summer Reading Program.
The Booksales sponsored by the Friends in 2006 once again raised significant
amounts of money. In September, 2006, we raised $65,000.00, and in December,
we raised approximately $12,000.00. By donating your used books, records,
CDs, etc., or helping us sort donations, you can help us continue to run one
of the largest volunteer-run booksales in the Northeast. (See “Booksales”
for further information.)
